MASVINGO –Former player and veteran football administrator, Wisdom Simba is the new Chairperson of the ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League, taking over role from Davison Muchena.

Muchena was elected into the new ZIFA executive and Simba who was the vice chairman took over the hot seat.
“I am happy to have been elevated from being Vice Chairman to be at the helm of the region,” Simba told The Midweek Watch.
“It’s just a continuity as I have worked well with my brother Muchena, and we have been open to each other. In fact, I have been understudying him all along,” said Simba.
Simba, who is married with three children, has a long history in football.
He began playing at the age of 10 with Cosco Juniors in Marondera, progressing through the age groups before joining several Premier Soccer League clubs, including Tanganda, Mutare United and Buffaloes, before retiring in 2003.
After his playing career, Simba served as treasurer and then secretary for Buffaloes FC. He was later coopted into the Eastern Region board, starting as fixtures secretary before being elevated to league’s secretary and then Vice Chairman.
At the national level, Simba has served on the Competitions Committee and the Technical and Development Committee.
He has also coordinated coaching courses across the country and successfully conducted a FIFA Grassroots course in Masvingo.
Simba holds several certificates, including in Sports Management, FIFA Corporate Governance, and Anti-Doping.
He has also attended security officer courses and the World Football Forum in Durban.
In his new role, Simba said he will continue the league’s engagement with corporate sponsors and work to ensure that the league’s statutes are respected and observed.
He also stressed that violence has no place in the game.
