GWERU– Vice President Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga has donated 200 000 bricks for building a hall at the pastoral centre of Diocese of Gweru.
Chiwenga made the pledge during the silver jubilee celebrations of Bishop Rudolph Nyandoro’s priesthood at Regina Mundi High School in Gweru last week on Saturday.
He was accompanied with his new wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga.

“We thank you Sekuru Nyandaro for your visionary spiritual leadership. Recently I was in Driefontein witnessing a massive agricultural project by the Catholic Diocese of Gweru in the process complementing Government’s efforts to eradicate food insecurity in Zimbabwe”.
“l will give you 200 000 bricks to construct a pastoral centre, nyaya yacho yaramba yotaurika the issue was repeated by speaker after speaker”, said Chiwenga in a jocular manner.
Bishop Nyandoro addressed hundreds of people at the gathering where he expressed joy for celebrating twenty five years of priestly ordination.
“My dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, it is with my great joy that this year I am celebrating twenty five years of my priestly ordination. I thank the Lord who called me to serve him as a priest”, said Bishop Nyandoro.
“As I celebrate these twenty five years of priestly ministry, many people have asked me. Sekuru what do you want us to give you as a jubilee gift? In my reflection l remembered the words of the Psalmist. ‘’How can l repay the Lord for all his goodness to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the Lord’s name” ( Psalm 116: 12-13) . I also said to myself : What is the best gift to me and the Diocese?”.
The gift that immediately came to my mind is that of building a hall at the pastoral centre for our Diocese of Gweru. Our main focus as the whole Catholic family of Gweru is to construct something that accommodates us when we have our Diocesan functions such as a multi-purpose hall at the Pastoral Centre.
“This hall will contribute immensely towards our efforts of evangelism. This endeavour fulfils our aspirations as the Diocese of Gweru to enlarge the space of our tent’’ Isiaih 54:2). The hall will be used for pastoral , liturgical, educational, skills training and social activities.
“That is why l’m kindly appealing for your generous support towards the construction of this hall. All the gifts coming to me on this special occasion may be directed towards the construction of this multi-purpose hall.
“Let these words of St Paul encourage us Since you are eager for gifts of the spirit , try to excel in those that build up the church ( 1cor. 14:12).
“I thank you for your prayers and support in my ministry as the shepherd of the flock of the Lord.
“May the good Lord continue to guide and protect you in the life he is always giving you,’’ read the letter in possession of The Midweek Watch.
