MILLICENT HUNGWE
RUSAPE-Rising musical star Vengai Godfrey Chiunya aka VGC is set to release his debut album called Ndakabatwa as he is almost through with recordings and is in the process of polishing up the project.
Chiunya’s upcoming album, NDAKABATWA, produced by Delan Lee from Unique Studio in Chiredzi, tackles everyday life struggles, encouraging people to return to authentic living.
The album features seven tracks: Wakundwanei, Hapana Changu, Sahwira, Ndakanga Ndakabatwa, Taparara, Madiro, and Bvunza Mutupo.
Chiunya’s musical journey began in 1999, singing at parties in Rusape rural area and Mutare urban, where he grew up.
He is of the Shonga/Nyati totem and his passion for music was ignited, unaware it would blossom into a full-fledged career.
He said that, “his first song, Wakundwanei, was recorded during this time and is featured on his forthcoming album.
“I got inspiration from Zimbabwean music legends like Progress Chipfumo, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, and Mike Mopo, shaping my unique sound, Vhanyangu Music.”
This genre is rooted in his heritage and late father’s wisdom, who taught to him to speak out against injustice and promote positive change in society.
As a child, he used to dance to the Vhanya rhythm, singing “Kwataiti Kutaura Chokwadi Kuvhanyangura,” phrases embodying his music’s spirit.
As a new artist, Chiunya hasn’t performed live yet but is eager to take to the stage after the album’s release.
He’s assembled an energetic eight-member band, Goka Mufaro, comprising a lead guitarist, bass acoustic guitarist, drummer, three dynamic dancers, and backing vocalist/manager Chido.
With NDAKABATWA, Chiunya invites music lovers to experience Vhanyangu Music’s power, inspiring positivity and social change.
He’s excited to share his journey and connect with fans soon, spreading his message of hope and courage.
