Veteran nurse Makamure calls it a day

GOKOMERE-Georgina Makamure who has been in the healthcare profession for the past 42 years on the bounce has called it a day.

A lavish valedictory party was held in Makamure’s honour at Gokomere Clinic which was attended by hundreds of villagers from the Zimuto chieftainship community.

Also in attendance were headmen and village heads including Svondo, Takauya, Takure, Gokomere primary school deputy head, and Sister Faith Venge who was the guest of honor.

Makamure was born in 1960 at Masvingo Provincial Hospital and is the first daughter of the late Frank Makamure and Lucia Chimongo.

She was raised in a large family of eight siblings two boys and six girls where she learned the value of responsibility and compassion from a young age.

 Makamure’s journey in the healthcare system began on 1 July 1983 when she joined Gokomere Mission Clinic as a nurse aide.

Her educational foundation was laid at St Francis Zimuto Primary School and Makomba High School followed by nursing training at the Redcross Centre in Masvingo.

At Gokomere Mission Clinic Makamure played a vital role conducting deliveries, monitoring vital signs and maintaining patient environments, throughout her journey colleagues describe her as compassionate, empathetic, and intelligent.

As the firstborn Makamure demonstrated remarkable responsibility supporting her sibling’s education and inspiring many to become nurses, nurse aides and teachers.
