MASVINGO–After a distinguished 35-year nursing career, Sister Sarah Gonye has retired, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication and care.
Sister Gonye’s remarkable journey began in 1989 when she earned her diploma in General Nursing from Msiso School of Nursing in Zaka, Masvingo Province.
Her first assignment was at Gutu Mission Hospital, where she spent seven years honing her skills in various departments, including pediatrics, male medical, female surgical and theater.
In 1999, she joined the City of Masvingo health department, serving at Rujeko Clinic until 2006, then moving to Runyararo Clinic before being transferred to Mucheke Clinic in 2008.
For 16 years, she provided exceptional care to the Masvingo community, becoming an iconic figure in the healthcare sector.
“Honestly, God is good all the time, the journey was not easy, it was filled with ups and downs, especially in this era where the dollar is not stable,” said the retired nurse.
“I am happy because I managed to work together with my husband and managed to bring up our kids to the level they desired.”
Sister Gonye’s retirement marks the end of an era, but patients and colleagues will deeply miss her humor, counseling and loving care.
She embodied the spirit of Florence Nightingale, tending to each patient with kindness and compassion.
“Above all, I will always miss Mazorodze Clinic, the nursing profession, and staff who had become part of my life, as you know, nursing is a calling. I can only retire but never resign from my calling,” Sister Gonye said.
