- 500 residential stands ready for uptake

MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) hosted a press club discussion focusing on the giant Lake Tugwi Mukosi master plan and its implications to the economy of Masvingo Province.
The discussion which was held last Friday was running under the theme ‘Tugwi Mukosi Combination Master Plan-Implications for Masvingo Province’.
Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira who was also present at the press club discussion said that the completion of Tugwi Mukosi dam has opened business opportunities within for both local and international investors and the Master Plan will play a key role in guiding development in the designated places at the biggest inland water body in the country.
“Tugwi Mukosi has opened a lot of business opportunities and we are looking forward to boost our tourism sector by building new lodges and five star hotels, boat cruises and other activities.
“We aim to make Masvingo province the bread basket of the country through this green belt by producing various agricultural produces since we have the largest dam in the country,” said Chadzamira.
ZUJ president George Maponga giving his opening remarks said the discussion was meant to give the journalists, community members who were present and the major stakeholders that administer the dam a clear picture of what is being planned for the development of the province at large through Tugwi Mukosi.
“As ZUJ we arranged this press club discussion so that our journalists, the community members here present and those that are absent and the major stakeholders, Masvingo Rural District Council and Chivi Rural District Council that administer the dam give a clear picture of the ‘Master Plan’ of Tugwi Mukosi,” said Maponga.
“This platform is meant to help people know and get clarity on the plans that are instore for the dam on issues of how the land is being distributed, sold and for those that want to buy land or who want to be part of the people that are going to be doing business at the dam who should they consult or approach”.
Archbald Ncube, human resources and administration officer for Masvingo RDC in his presentation said that there are 500 residential stands that are ready for uptake around the lake, 14 flat stands, 300 square meters to 2500 square meters and about 4-5h land for solar farm investment that is going to contribute on the electricity’s national grid incorporated in the Tugwi Mukosi Combination Master Plan.
“Tugwi Mukosi as one of our largest dams in Zimbabwe is going to contribute immensely to the national economic growth through business that will be generated in that area especially the tourism sector and the agricultural sector because we are going to promote the small scale farmers and have a green belt in the province and boost our tourism sector with more lodges and five star hotels that are going to be built around the dam, boat cruises and fishing will surely attract a lot of investors”, said Ncube.
Chivi Rural District Council chief executive officer, Tariro Matavire said they will built a smart city at Chibi turn off as a result of the giant water body and as part of the Master Plan.
