MASVINGO CITY-The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has resumed construction of its Masvingo office, a project initially started in June 2017 but stalled due to lack of funds caused by hyper inflation.

Managing Director of TSCZ Munesushe Munodawafa told The Midweek Watch that they awarded the contract to the Department of Public Works, which then subcontracted the project to a private company to build the office block that is meant to bring all its services under one roof.

TSCZ Masvingo offices under construction.

The office block has one story and is situated at corner Simon Muzenda Street and Simon Mazorodze Avenue near Great Zimbabwe University Hebert Chitepo Law School.

“The project was initially targeted for completion within 18 months but suffered delays due to external factors, primarily inflation, however, construction resumed in July 2024 and is currently progressing well,” said Munodawafa.

According to him, the project is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2025.

The new office block will provide ample space for TSCZ’s operations, with possibilities of letting out excess space to other organizations.

The council intends to utilize the office to offer various services, including Highway code education, Green book issuance and Defensive driving courses (DDC).

TSCZ media and corporate communications officer,  Lucy Kuwandira, emphasized the importance of the project in line with devolution goals.

“We aim to make our products and services accessible to everyone, our vision is to have all public and private vehicle drivers trained in DDC to minimize road carnage.

“This aligns with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) aspiration to reduce road deaths by 50% by 2030,” she said.

The TSCZ Masvingo office will play a vital role in promoting road safety in the region.

With construction back on track, the TSCZ is confident that the new office will enhance its services and contribute to a safer transportation sector in Zimbabwe.
