The bitter sweet road to HIV infection

Today’s pleasure is tomorrow’s pain so they say. Most HIV which people acquired in the late 80s was a result of what people call pleasure involving sex and partying.

I think the day God finished creating man and having poured lots of sugar into sex He then took a very long vacation which is still ongoing knowing full well that he would never have the trouble of creating man again .The human race would continue multiplying non stop forever and ever.

Sexual intercourse is so compellingly sweet to the point that very few people can afford to overcome it’s temptingly, pleasurable and compulsive force. A lot of people have got entangled into many serious problems including being killed because of sex. A lot of people languishing in prisons, bedridden in hospitals or other such bad situations are there mostly because of sex .

A lot of people who pretend to be very well behaved, innocent and God fearing when in public behaving like they never want anything to do with sex are the most active when they are alone with their partners out there. Give them a small secluded space and you see the wild animal in them rearing its ugly head out. If one was to visit any of the night clubs and brothels one would be shocked at some of the people there. Sex has been known to take place in very unlikely places you can ever imagine.

Those well clad executives, secretaries, farmers, soldiers, teachers ordinary folk and many others appearing so busy and serious going about their business as if it’s the only thing in their minds and lives have got one thing in their minds and that is sex.

Sex is a very powerful force which affects everyone differently though it is the least talked about and the most done activity in this world. A friend once told me that research has revealed that most sexually active men think about sex every five minutes. All humanity except for Adam and Eve are all products of sexual acts. The major route of HIV infection is sexual intercourse and hence this article shall dwell on the powerful force that we call sex and why HIV will continue to be a big challenge especially now with strong rumours that condoms are going to be in short supply.

When God created sex His intention among other things was purely for reproductive purposes as evidenced in the animal world where most animals only engage in sex for specific periods and once the female is pregnant no more sex takes place.

Human beings in their own wisdom and cleverness have taken sex a step further and made it a source of pleasure to be enjoyed whenever one feels like it. Sex has been turned into big business by some enterprising people and organisations to the extent that it’s no longer for reproduction only.

Prostitution as well as adultery have been in existence as a source of entertaining, alternative and adventurous sex for thousands of years and will remain so for as long as man continues to live on this earth. The most encouraging thing though is that most hardcore prostitutes will never agree to unprotected sex no matter how much money you offer them no wonder why prostitution only accounts for less than 8 percent of all HIV infections. The most gullible when it comes to unprotected sex are married ladies and young girls who are easily coerced into unprotected sex after seeing the false health appearance of their partners.

HIV doesn’t come cheap for most men because one has to pay dearly in order to get it. During the late 1980s to early 2000s prostitutes were in most cases a bit hard to get than nowadays. Prostitutes were also very classy and very expensive too. They were catergorised into those that operated from their homes/houses, hotels, beer halls, lodges to those who were where men were making money from like in mines and farms or even in war zones. Women too, they can do anything anywhere.

A lot of HIV+ men during these years I have mentioned got their HIV very expensively. Most had to out pace each other in spending in order to impress their ladies before finally going to bed with them. A lot of money was lost before one could get HIV/AIDS. Families had to suffer neglect while father enjoyed himself out there .There were gentlemen known as “pleasure managers”  who would spend their leisure time after work or during weekends in these very expensive hotels, lodges and other expensive places enjoying with their girlfriends and in the process being infected with HIV.

Payback time always comes with a pinch of salt sooner than later and in my case it came when I least expected it but I am very happy that it’s over now. The time one gets ill from any of the opportunistic diseases like TB, some cancers and other types of diseases that’s when one realises the bitterness that comes after pleasure. Most HIV/AIDS patients die regretting why they had to go to such lengths to be infected with HIV in the first place. The reason why wives sometimes refuse to care for their sick husbands is because of the trauma and suffering they’ll have endured while the husband was busy enjoying life with prostitutes at the same time not taking care of the family.

Revenge is not the best way to deal with errant husbands when they’re Ill and it’s good to care and forgive one’s husband when they need help in times of illness.

My advice to all out there is “Let’s act responsibly and avoid new sexually transmitted HIV infections”.
