A 24-year-old woman from Makande village in Silobela, under Chief Malisa, has been arrested on allegations of murdering her husband following a violent misunderstanding over family welfare.
Liona Mbulawa is accused of striking her husband, Brighton Dube, on the forehead with a pot, causing him to fall to the floor.
She then allegedly pulled a burning log from the fire and hit him repeatedly all over his body.
The tragic incident occurred on November 27, 2024, around 7 PM, after Dube returned home from a local tuck shop, where he had been drinking beer.
According to police reports, Dube found his wife in the kitchen preparing supper for their three children, aged between 9 months and 9 years.
A misunderstanding arose between the couple which escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, Mbulawa grabbed a pot from the fireplace and struck Dube on the forehead, causing him to collapse, according to Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
“She then proceeded to pull a burning log from the fire and hit him repeatedly all over his body.”
A 79-year-old neighbor, Halane Dube, intervened and verbally warned the couple to stop the altercation.
She then took Mbulawa and the children to her homestead for the night.
The following morning, around 7 AM, Mbulawa returned home and discovered Dube’s lifeless body lying in the kitchen.
The police were immediately notified, leading to Mbulawa’s arrest.
