Shurugwi woman stabbed over infidelity, battles for life

Shurugwi- A- 26- year old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being stabbed by her boyfriend over infidelity issues.

The incident occurred on July 6, 2024 at around 10pm at the Mambowa Business Centre in Shurugwi.

According to the Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the suspect, Cleto Nyakareta (28) of Sebanga Park Shurugwi, returned home from Wanderer Mine where he works as an artisanal miner and did not find his girlfriend whom he is cohabiting with.

Nyakareta later located his girlfriend at the Mambowa Business Centre, where she was drinking beer with an unknown male adult whom she claimed was her new boyfriend.

This confrontation led to a scuffle between Nyakareta and the other man, he struck the complainant’s new boyfriend on the head with an empty beer bottle.

After this initial incident, the new boyfriend was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

However, at around 10pm, the girlfriend returned home intoxicated, and another argument ensued between the lovers.

This time, Nyakareta allegedly struck the girlfriend on the head with an empty beer bottle and then used broken pieces of the bottle to assault her several times, causing her to fall down and bleed profusely.

 The matter was reported to the police and the suspect Nyakareta was subsequently arrested after the report was made to the police and is currently remanded in custody waiting for trial.
