A Shurugwi man was stabbed with a knife after being suspected to be a dangerous criminal in an incident which occurred on Monday this week at around 2230 hours, near Mandiro tuckshop in Shurugwi.

Witness Dube (31)  of Woodlands Phase 1 in Gweru knocked off duty at his mine shaft (name not given) in Shurugwi and went home on foot. While on the way, he was intercepted by another man he only knew as Mutumbani of Charuma mine who was drinking beer at Mandiro tuckshop.

It is alleged, the suspect confronted Dube and started accusing the complainant of being a dangerous criminal who terrorize innocent people at night.

He produced a knife which he used to indiscriminately stab him all over the body and the complainant fell down.

A security guard who was close by however intervened and the suspect disappeared. A well-wisher assisted the complainant with transport to Shurugwi Hospital where he was further transferred to Gweru General Hospital for further treatment. The complainant sustained serious injuries.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko is appealing to the public on the suspect’s whereabouts.

“We are keen to interview Mutumbani in connection with the case and ZRP Shurugwi is investigating it. May anyone with information concerning his whereabouts pass it to any police station.” Mahoko said.
