Shurugwi man killed for restraining snooker dispute

SHURUGWI-A 31-year-old Shurugwi man, Luckmore Kombayi was stabbed to death with a knife for restraining strangers from beating up his friend at Chamagomana Business Centre in Shurugwi.

The murder happened at around 2000 hours on 28 October 2023.

The suspect Tawanda Mativenga (35) approached one Benson Machisa (25) who was playing snooker in Mubaiwa Store with the now deceased Luckmore Kombayi (31). 

Mativenga shouted at Benson and went on to grab him by the collar. The now-deceased intervened to stop the assault which was imminent.

The suspect got angry and allegedly stabbed Kombayi with a knife once in the chest. Kombayi sustained a deep stab wound. He bled profusely and died on the spot.

Kombayi’s body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary.

The suspect Mativenga was arrested on 29 November 2023 and investigations are in progress.

Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel. Mahoko applauded the general public for the information that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“We applaud members of the public for supplying helpful information which led to the arrest of the suspect. We also appeal to members of the public to desist from resorting to violence to settle disputes,” he added.
