Semvumba Arts Ensemble has emerged victorious in this year’s provincial round of the prestigious Chibuku Neshamwari competitions.

The talented group wowed both fans and adjudicators with their electrifying Dinhe dance performance, taking home the top prize of $2 500.
The group’s Dinhe dance performance was a highlight of the competition, showcasing their rich cultural heritage and musical prowess. Their win is a testament to their talent and commitment to preserving traditional Zimbabwean music and dance.

Chenhaka Dance Academy came in second place, impressing the adjudicators with their own Chinyambera unique style of dance and earning themselves $1 500 in prize money.
Makoni based traditional dance club rounded out the top three, taking home $1 000 for their energetic performance.
In an interview after the competition, Semvumba Arts Ensemble leader Takudzwa Matete expressed excitement and pride at winning the competition in their first year of participation.
“We are over the moon! We did not expect to win the top prize in our first attempt, but our hard work and dedication paid off. We started preparing for this competition last year in May and we would encourage each other to work hard,” said Matete.

The Chibuku Neshamwari competition provides a platform for emerging traditional dance groups to showcase their skills and gain recognition. Semvumba Arts Ensemble’s win is an inspiration to other groups, demonstrating that with passion and perseverance, success is within reach. With their prize money, the group plans to further develop their craft and potentially take their talents to the national stage.
The national finals will be held at the Glamis arena on July 19, and the winner is set to walk away $15 000 richer, first runner up will get $10 000, and the third position will receive $7 500.
In 2024 Kweteka Dance Group walked away the champions.
