SDA man hides knife in Bible, attacks elder for sleeping with his wife

Date:

A tragic incident occurred at Ebenezer Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ramoya village, Homa Bay County, Kenya, where a 35-year-old church elder was fatally stabbed during a service.

The attack took place on Saturday in front of the congregation, allegedly due to a suspected love affair.

The victim, Francis Opiyo, had just finished presenting church reports before the main sermon when another elder, who was also part of the church leadership, suddenly attacked him.

According to Suba South Sub-County Police Commander Caxton Ndunda, the suspect approached the altar as Francis was handing over responsibilities to another elder.

He then drew a knife, reportedly concealed within a Bible, and stabbed Francis in the left side of his chest. The victim collapsed immediately.

Authorities report that the suspect accused Francis of having an affair with his wife, who also holds a leadership position in the church. Following the stabbing, the attacker fled but later surrendered to the area’s Assistant Chief.

Meanwhile, the hospital rushed Francis, who tragically succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

Law enforcement officials have since taken the suspect into custody at Magunga Police Station.

Commander Ndunda urged community members to seek peaceful conflict resolution methods rather than resorting to violence.

St. Camillus Hospital Mortuary in Sori Town, Migori County, has received the victim’s body as investigations continue.
