MASVINGO-Masvingo Cricket Association side Scorpions Cricket Club produced a spirited comeback to claim a convincing six-wicket victory over Rimuka Cricket Club in a Zimbabwe Cricket 2026 National Premier League encounter played over the weekend at Kadoma Sports Club.
Facing a challenging target after Rimuka posted 230/4 in 34 overs, Scorpions showed nerves of steel with the bat.
The Masvingo outfit timed their chase to perfection, reaching 231/4 in 33.4 overs to seal a memorable win and breathe new life into their campaign.
Leading the charge was the sensational Jimmy Nyangoni, whose explosive 90 runs off just 63 deliveries tore through Rimuka’s bowling attack. His match-winning knock earned him both the Player of the Match and Best Batter awards.
The victory could not have come at a better time for Scorpions, who had endured a difficult start to the season.
They opened their campaign with a 93-run defeat to Gladiators Cricket Club before suffering losses to Queens 1 Sports Club (by five wickets), Takashinga 1 (by seven wickets) and Old Hararians 1 (by 91 runs).
Scorpions finally broke their losing streak with a four-wicket victory over Triangle Cricket Club, only to stumble again in an eight-wicket defeat to Takashinga 2.
However, their latest triumph over Rimuka has reignited belief that the Masvingo side can still turn their season around.
After seven matches, Scorpions Cricket Club have won two and lost five, collecting eight points. With confidence restored and key players finding form, the Masvingo Cricket Association side will be hoping this hard fought victory marks the beginning of a sustained resurgence in the National Premier League.
