Report abductors to Police-Ziyambi

MIDWEEK REPORTER

HARARE- The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi has challenged anyone with evidence and information about people involved in abductions to report to the Police for prosecution.

Ziyambi was responding to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator, Fadzai Mahere’s question this Wednesday in the House of Assembly on government’s policy on ensuring that murders, abductions and enforced disappearances are impartially investigated by the Police.

“We have a Constitution that prohibits enforced disappearances. So, the policy of Government is already there. What is needed is, if there is anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of these individuals that they are alleging ‘abduction’ or did whatever they did, they must provide the investigating officers with that information so that they can investigate fully and ensure that they are prosecuted,” said Ziyambi.

Ziyambi’s response did not satisfy Mahere who further asked the government’s policy of ensuring that the Police carry out the Constitutional obligations.

Mahere also expressed her disappointment over government’s inaction through letting the Police get away with making statements that are not followed up by investigations and arrests.

Ziyambi reiterated that the Government does not have a policy of killing citizens.

“I have indicated that as Government, we want this nation to be peaceful. We do not want lawlessness, we do not have a policy at all of murdering each other, ” added Ziyambi.

The opposition political party, CCC is riled by a spate of abductions of its members in the past few weeks.

This has resulted in CCC trading barbs with the ruling party, Zanu PF sympathizers.

CCC activist Tapfumaneyi Masaya was abducted on Saturday in Mabvuku and found dead in Harare on Monday.

These horrendous incidents are unfolding ahead of the by-elections slated for the 9th of December 2023 after the recall of 15 CCC legislators by self-imposed secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu.
