A sombre atmosphere has engulfed the former steel making town of Redcliff this afternoon following the sudden death of Mayor Clayton Masiyatsva.
Masiyatsva reportedly collapsed and was confirmed dead upon admission at a local clinic.
The Redclifff Town ward 3 councilor, who was serving his second consecutive term as its Mayor died on Wednesday afternoon at Topomas Clinic.
In a statement Redcliff Municipality said Councilor Masiyatsva died after a short illness.
“The municipality of Redcliff would like to notify it’s residents and stakeholders of the untimely passing away if His Worship the Mayor of Redcliff Cllr Clayton Sundirayi Masiyatsva. The mayor passed away today the 24th of January after a short illness,” reads the bereavement notice from the town council.
Adding that the Mayor’s funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
Posting on his X space Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said the party is saddened by the demise of the long serving opposition member.
