Promote mental wellness for healthy living

MASVINGO-As cases of stress, anxiety, depression and emotional burnout continue to rise in communities, mental health experts are urging Zimbabweans to prioritise mental wellness as an important part of life.

In many communities, people silently battle emotional challenges caused by unemployment, economic hardships, family pressures and social expectations. However, despite the growing burden, conversations around mental health remain limited because of stigma and fear of judgement.

Speaking on the importance of mental wellness, registered clinical psychologist Achievement Tavonga Mateveke (pictured) said emotional wellbeing plays a vital role in shaping productive individuals and stronger communities.

“Mental wellness is the foundation of a healthy, productive, and meaningful life. When people take care of their mental health, they improve their ability to cope with challenges, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to society,” said Mateveke.

Mateveke noted that many people often ignore signs of emotional distress until problems become severe, leading to poor work performance, substance abuse, broken relationships and other health complications.

To help address these challenges, Rakyalt Enterprise and Consultancy is working to raise awareness about mental wellness through counselling services, wellness programmes, awareness campaigns and stress management training in schools, workplaces and communities.

The consultancy, which consists of trained and registered mental health professionals, aims to encourage open discussions about emotional wellbeing and help individuals develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Mateveke said promoting mental wellness is not only about responding to crises but also about prevention and resilience building.

“We believe that creating safe spaces for people to talk about their emotional struggles can help reduce stigma and improve overall wellbeing in society,” he added.

As social and economic pressures continue to affect many Zimbabweans, mental health experts say there is a growing need for communities to support one another and treat mental wellness as an essential part of everyday life.

Rakyalt Enterprise and Consultancy says it remains committed to empowering minds and enhancing lives through mental health awareness and support initiatives aimed at building healthier communities.
