ZNAN joins world to commemorate World Cancer Day

On February 4, 2025, the Zimbabwe NCDs Action Network (ZNAN) is joining the global community to commemorate World Cancer Day, a day set aside to raise awareness about cancer and its impact on individuals, families, and communities.

This year’s theme, “United by Unique,” emphasizes the importance of person-centered care, recognizing that every person’s experience with cancer is unique. ZNAN is committed to supporting this theme by advocating for policies and programs that prioritize individualized care and support for people living with cancer in Zimbabwe, bearing in mind that people’s cancer lived experience cannot be replaced by any amount of technical expertise.

Person-centered healthcare is an approach to healthcare that focuses on the individual’s unique needs, values, and preferences. It prioritizes the person’s autonomy, dignity, and well-being, and involves active participation in decision-making about their care.

“Cancer is a growing concern in Zimbabwe, and it’s essential that we come together to raise awareness, support those affected, and advocate for better services,” said Jacob Ngwenya , ZNAN’s Executive Director. “We are committed to working with the government, healthcare providers, and communities to ensure that cancer patients receive the care and support they need.”

ZNAN calls on all Zimbabweans to join the fight against cancer by getting educated about cancer risk factors and prevention strategies. Supporting cancer patients and their families. Advocating for policies and programs that prioritize cancer care and support. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
