MASVINGO-The Provincial Education Director for Masvingo, Shylatte Mhike warned 42 young parliamentarians against drug and substance abuse during a send-off ceremony to Harare for their induction.
“When I look at you, I see young and innocent souls. I know you will meet many people during this programme, but stay away from drugs and remain focused on your future,” she said.
The junior parliamentarians will be in Harare for their orientation on their roles and responsibilities while also taking part in the election of the junior president and deputies, other office holders like ministers, chief whip, speaker of parliament and clerk of parliament.
The provincial delegation comprises 36 Junior MPs and six senators who were part of the outgoing junior parliament.
As part of the programme, 10 junior parliamentarians from each of Zimbabwe’s provinces will contest for the position of president.
Speaking during the send-off ceremony held at Victoria High School today, Mhike, urged the learners to represent the province with pride and discipline.
“I urge you learners to go and represent Masvingo Province with pride. Behave well, uphold good values and enjoy the experience,” said Mhike.
The delegation which has since arrived at the Harare Institute of Technology where they are based is headed by Zimbabwe youth Council provincial manager, Patience Nguvo accompanied by Provincial Inspector of Physical Education, Sports, and Arts Fredrick Matavikwa and Shaperoni Chisimo from Mutendi High School.
Of interest is the presence of Honest Venge a form One learner at Chibvumbi Secondary School in Chivi South who outsmarted competitors from powerhouses at a debating competition to land the coveted post of junior MP for the constituency.
