MILLICENT HUNGWE
Dzanisai Chirenje nee Hungwe’s life was celebrated and mourned at her homestead in Denga on April 9, as family, friends and the community gathered to bid her farewell.
Dzanisai lost her battle with breast cancer, leaving behind a grieving family, including her father, Phillip Dunira Hungwe, a respected councillor with 25 years of service.
Despite his own pain, Hungwe’s dedication to his community was evident in the outpouring of love and support from the people he had served for so many years. “It’s painful to lay to rest your own daughter, but her soul must rest in peace,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.
The funeral also highlighted the compassion and kindness of the St Apostolic Church of the Whole World in Botswana, where Dzanisai had received care during her illness, her brother, Shadreck Hungwe, was deeply moved by the church’s love and support, which inspired him to join their community.
“I’ve witnessed the love you’ve shown my sister at the hospital,” he said. “I want to be a new member and be part of this kind family.” The church welcomed him warmly, presenting him with new uniforms.
The Hungwe family expressed their gratitude to those who supported them during this difficult time. They thanked the Chirenje family, ZCC Bishop Mutendi for financial assistance, Dr. Vincent Hungwe Public Service Commission (PSC) chairperson and Dr. Phineas Makurira, and close relatives who attended the funeral.
Tobias Hungwe, speaking on behalf of the family, acknowledged the overwhelming support they received from everyone.
