Passengers flea armed robber, lose US$1 700

NYAZURA-Three people, including the driver of a vehicle they were travelling in had to flea for their lives as a machete wielding robber charged at them from the bush and they lost cash and property worth US$1 700 in the process.

The robber who was wielding a machete was wearing a balaclava when he pounced on the four people who were reliving themselves at the 183km peg lay by along Mutare-Harare Road in the Nyazura area.

The incident happened on December 10 at around 1pm where the one of the passengers of lost US1 400 cash while others lost cellphones and, bags and clothes as they fled in all directions from the charging robber who suddenly emerged from the bush.

Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, acting Manicaland Police, Community Relations and Liaison Officer confirmed the incident.

The matter was reported at Nyazura Police Station on the same day and the complainants are, Emma Muchingami of Chikanga II (driver), Raphael Madanhi of Palmerstone and 12 year old of Palmerstone, all from Mutare City.

The vehicle was driving to Mutare City, nothing was recovered and the suspect is still at large.
