Panthers smash Steppers 99-37 in Masvingo big ball league

MASVINGO- The Masvingo Basketball Association held its latest league games on Saturday, November 30, 2024, with the Chivara Panthers samshing Big Steppers 99-37.

The Panthers, led by their standout forwards Tapiwa Mugabe, Brighton Mutiwasekwa, and Lee Kumona, who scored 26, 22, and 18 points respectively, showcased an impressive team effort.

“Overall, as Panthers, we can see great performances as everyone is now eager to contribute more and more,” said Panthers coach Trevor Njinga.

 “We have forwards Tapiwa Mugabe, Brighton Mutiwasekwa, and Lee Kumona, who had 26 points, 22 points, and 18 points respectively. That means everyone is playing for the team.”

The Panthers’ dominant performance has seen them looking forward to the national competition, as they continue to build momentum in the Masvingo Basketball League.

In a separate match, the Outlaws defeated the Big Steppers 68-43. Outlaws captain Kudzai Kudzoe expressed his team’s happiness with the result, although they still hope to defeat the defending champions, Panthers in the future.

“We are happy with the results, we also wish to defeat Panthers,” Kudzoe said. “We can just say we are so happy for the win against Big Steppers, which is a good team on and off the court. As a team, we noticed some areas that still need improvement, and we are hoping to work harder to really improve our set plays as a team and also hoping for another win next week against the defending champions, the Panthers team.”
