NYAZURA-Red Buffalo Academy, a women’s football club based in the Chitenderano catchment area in Nyazura South, are appealing to well-wishers to come on board and support the team as it faces serious financial challenges.
The team competes in the Women’s Eastern Region Soccer League but is struggling to sustain its participation due to a lack of resources.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch, one of the club’s founders, Wilbert Maibvise, said the situation has made it difficult to run the club effectively.
“We are facing serious challenges in running the club. We do not have adequate football equipment such as balls and training cones, and in some cases, players do not even have boots,” he said.
The extent of the challenges was evident on Sunday when the team played out a 2-2 draw against Mutare City Queens at Chisamba ground in Mutare with several players taking to the field without proper footwear.
The club, which once competed in the national league, was relegated due to financial constraints that continue to affect its operations.
Maibvise said financial support would significantly improve the club’s situation and help in developing young female talent.
“With proper support, we can improve the team and create opportunities for these girls to compete at national level and build a future through football,” he said.
The club is also seeking sponsorship partnerships, which the founders say are critical to its survival and long-term sustainability.
Efforts to integrate the club within the community have faced challenges, particularly in gaining acceptance and support.
“We have tried to engage the community, but acceptance has been a challenge.
Red Buffalo Academy is run by Maibvise alongside fellow colleagues Piusn and Wurimbo Listen, who continue to operate under difficult conditions to keep the team active.
