Fifteen passengers coming from neighboring South Africa aboard a Mutare bound bus escaped death by a whisker when the alert bus crew evacuated the passengers before it burst into flames.

The incident happened this morning (Thursday) around 11 am near Sese business center when the bus belonging to Timboon Bus Company was reduced to ashes after it caught fire while in motion.

Chipfupa Chiro driver of the bus told The Midweek Watch that he noticed smoke coming from the engine and stopped the bus to investigate only to realize that the engine had caught fire.

He immediately ordered passengers to disembark from the bus, a few minutes after the passengers had been safely evacuated the entire bus burst into flames.

He believes the bus developed a mechanical fault which caused the fire and it was too late to extinguish the flames from the engine.

Although no one was hurt, all the passengers’ goods were reduced to ashes and efforts are underway to assist the passengers.

Masvingo Province police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu confirmed the incident.
