Gift Kudakwashe Hombarume, born on 17 October 2000, rose to fame under the name Chillmaster, becoming one of Zimbabwe’s most compelling voices in Afro-fusion music.

His journey began at Chill Spot Recordz, where he honed his craft and developed a signature style that blends traditional Zimbabwean rhythms with modern urban sounds. Chillmaster’s music often explores themes of love, loss, spirituality and social struggle.

Some of his most popular tracks include:Horror – a haunting reflection on trauma and isolation, with over 7.6 million views on YouTube, Kudiwa Chaizvo– a romantic hit with 5.1 million views, Wakahwina Kare – a triumphant anthem with 1.4 million views, Usazofarisa and Vana Venyu – recent releases showcasing his evolving sound and other tracks include dai Mandiropafadza, Kuda.makanaka,Usandikanganwe with Poptain and Michael magz, Dai tangosiyana nazvo,Hapasikuda nharo and Ndiudze zvese. His music videos are known for their cinematic quality and emotional intensity, often directed by Taurai Zidya and produced by Tadexx Made It. In April 2025, Chillmaster faced serious legal trouble after a fatal car accident in Harare’s Hopely suburb. Reports suggest he did not have a valid driver’s license at the time, and he may face a life sentence for culpable homicide.

The incident shocked fans and the entertainment industry, casting a shadow over his rising career. Chilmaster has not yet released a full-length album, but his consistent stream of emotionally charged singles and collaborations suggests that a debut album may be on the horizon. He is also widely recognized for his lyrical depth and musical innovation. While specific award titles are still being cataloged, he is celebrated as an award-winning artist whose work resonates deeply with Zimbabwean youth and music lovers across Africa.
