BUHERA-In a significant collaborative effort to combat crime and social ills, the Mugodhi Apostolic Church partnered Police Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit during a Passover ceremony held on April 15, 2026.

The event took place in the Dorowa area under Headman Gutu, Chief Chisunge.

Sergeant Bright Moyosvi, the Acting Provincial Coordinator for the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, addressed the rising reports of cattle rustling in the region. He urged farmers to adopt proactive measures to secure their livestock, emphasizing that every owner should maintain a detailed record book for their cattle. He further advised that livestock must be secured in kraals every night. To enhance community security, Sergeant Moyosvi suggested that villagers consolidate their kraals in central locations and organize volunteer patrol groups to monitor the area after dark. He also reminded the audience that transporting cattle legally requires three essential documents: a police clearance, a signed letter from the Chief, and a permit from the Veterinary Services department.

The Guest of Honor, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Matilda Singende, National Coordinator of the Victim Friendly Unit, focused her address on the protection of children and the eradication of child marriages.

Ass Comm Singende reminded the villagers that the Constitution of Zimbabwe protects the rights of all children, ensuring they have the opportunity to grow up safely and receive an education.

She noted with concern that some children face abuse within their own homes and called for equal respect and guidance for both boys and girls.

Turning to broader community issues, Ass Com Singende warned the youth against the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

She also addressed a disturbing trend of sexual assault cases involving elderly victims by the youth due to drug influence. She urged the elderly to remain cautious and called for an end to domestic violence, pleading with couples to refrain from abusing one another. Supporting these sentiments, Chaplain Saungweme Mashava encouraged the congregant to maintain high standards of discipline and to be diligent in reporting any criminal activity in their neighborhoods to the authorities.
