MARTIN MAWAYA
KWEKWE– The Midlands State University’s (MSU) Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School Kwekwe campus is “one of the second republic’s impact projects aimed at establishing the tertiary institution as one of the best law schools in Africa,” said Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere.

The minister made the remarks during a media tour of government-initiated projects in the Midlands province on Thursday.
He said the law school marks an important chapter in Zimbabwean legal history.
Muswere added that the school is part of the government’s efforts to stimulate academic excellence in the country and is one of President Mnangagwa’s initiatives.
He highlighted that “the construction and resourcing of the MSU School of Law in Kwekwe is part of the decentralization and devolution of human capital in the country”.
Sitting on a 220-hectare plot, the school features a two-floor building that includes an e-library, a moot court, lecture rooms, and an administration block, among other facilities.
It will also house the faculties of agriculture and architecture.
According to MSU’s Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Gift Manyetera, the school is currently 65% complete, adding that the government’s commitment to promoting legal education is evident in the ongoing development.
The law lecturer said the Kwekwe campus, which started construction in 2023, is expected to be completed this year in August.
“We plan to commission this school sometime in August, as the main building is now 65% complete, and we are currently working on the roof. We are confident that we will meet our target, as the government continues to provide financial support for this project through the treasury,” Manyetera said.
The Kwekwe campus of the law school has already created employment for over 300 people.
Currently, MSU’s Faculty of Law enrolls 600 undergraduate and 30 postgraduate students per year.
Meanwhile, Minister Muswere said the government has provided the capacity for the media to visit and see the projects done by the second republic so that there is no disinformation and misinformation.
He added that his ministry will invite all the foreign media fraternity to tour some of the 8 000 government’s impact projects dotted throughout the country.
