MILLICENT HUNGWE
The premier resort city of Mosi oa Tunya aka Victoria Falls is set to host the historic 15th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP15) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands from July 23-31, 2025, at the iconic Elephant Hills Hotel.

The global gathering will bring together representatives from 172 countries with an estimated 4,000 delegates, in which local businesses are gearing up for a significant economic windfall.
In the run-up to the conference, the City of Victoria Falls has been engaging with various stakeholders, including tour operators, hoteliers, transport sector, residents, and school children.
These stakeholder engagement meetings aim to inform residents about the upcoming conference and encourage them to keep their surroundings clean.

Speaking with Environmental Management Agency spokesperson Amkela Sidange, “Preparations are underway, and we’re counting down to witness this huge event.”
The City’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, as it was recently awarded the Wetland City Accreditation status by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
This prestigious recognition acknowledges Victoria Falls’ wise use of its wetlands, including the iconic Victoria Falls, one of the World’s Natural Wonders.
Residents of Victoria Falls have been hailed for their strong commitment to conserving wetlands within the City. With the conference just a few months away, preparations are underway to ensure a successful event that will showcase the City’s beauty and its dedication to environmental conservation.
The surge in demand for accommodation, transportation, and hospitality services will inject new life into the local economy, creating fresh employment opportunities and stimulating entrepreneurship.

“Beyond the immediate economic benefits, COP 15 presents a unique chance for Zimbabwe to rebrand itself as a premier tourist destination and a champion of environmental conservation,” said a Victoria Falls resident who chose to remain anonymous.
