MASVINGO-An 81 year old man has been killed by a 19 year old mentally challenged teenager by stoning.
The sad incident happened on the September 11 at around 8pm in Chivi.
Masvingo Province Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the octogenarian, Girison Chivasa from Dzimati Village, under Headman Matsveru in Chivi was sitting at his homestead in the company of Berita Mawarire (70).
Chivasa’s nephew, Tafadzwa Chivasa (19) a mental patient started acting in a wild manner, running around in the compound saying he wanted to kill someone.
Tafadzwa went on to pick a stone and struck Girison in the stomach and he fell down screaming for help which prompted Mawarire to rush to the neighbors to ask for help leaving Girison alone with the mentally ill nephew who continued stoning the old uncle on the head until he died.
When Mawarire came back with the neighbor, they found Girison lying on ground in a pool of blood while Tafadzwa was standing by the side threatening to kill anyone who would come near him while holding an iron bar.
The duo stood far away from Tafadzwa until he bolted into the nearby bush.
Mawarire reported the matter to the Police who took the body to Chivi District Hospital mortuary.
Tafadzwa was arrested on the same day.
“As police we urge those who live with mentally ill relatives to take them to the hospital early and see to it that they take their medication in time,” said Dhewa.
