Media must follow up on unfulfilled promises!

One of the weaknesses and crime by our fourth organ of the state is the disease of not following up on promises by politicians.

Politicians make promises knowing they get away with it as no one bothers to question them. Both state and private media don’t want to hammer a politician for failing to fulfill a promise.

Our media tend to sweep election promises under the carpet. We are almost 12 months since we held our disputed elections. Media should take a critical analysis of the Zanu PF manifesto and evaluate the party’s performance. In the past media used to have yearly evaluation of cabinet Ministers but we’re silent on the President.

Typical example is in 2018 Mnangagwa bussed thousands of Masvingo voters into Mucheke stadium. He made far reaching promises. He said ÷

1) Masvingo CSC will be fully operational by 1 August 2018.

Broken down CSC delivery van.

2) Mashava Asbestos Mine will be opened and producing millions of tonnes of asbestos by 1 August 2018.

The two project were going to employ more than 50 000 direct workers and nearly a million secondary industries.

The people of Masvingo had every reason to cheer as Mnangagwa promised them. These two would have direct impact to millions of people in Masvingo.

The ghost industrial area of Masvingo was going to vibrate once again. CSC and Mashava mine would completely change the economic fortunes of Masvingo City.

The state media and private media are all silent on the issue. Mnangagwa must be put to task to answer the reasons why both of the projects have not moved an inch towards production.

Mnangagwa as a leader must have taken due research on the political, legal, economic etc requirements for the two to be opened. Announcing that the two will be fully operational and later give silly reasons push us to doubt his credibility as a planning leader.

There are many promises which our media must roast the politicians. If one take 2017 Mnangagwa and Zanu PF campaign manifesto it states of number of new schools and hospitals to be constructed. Our media should be given names and also visit some of projects promised.

Mwenezi has some of the worst schools in the province, definitely all pole and dagga school structure should have been a thing of the past as the manifesto did promise good new schools.

There are a lot of promises which need to be followed up, expose failure and educate voters to make their choice wide during election time.
