RUTENDO CHIRUME
MASVINGO- Masvingo Urban ward 6 councillor Wellington Mawende has vowed to wrestle Masvingo Urban from Nelson Chamisa led Citizens Coalition for Change in the mid-year crunch harmonized elections.
Mawende who is the Zanu PF District Coordinating Committee finance secretary for Masvingo as well as the Deputy Mayor was elected councilor in 2018 in a ward that was held by the former Mayor an MDC stalwart, Hubert Fidze said this proves he is capable of bringing Masvingo Urban under the ruling party fold once more.
Mawende said this as he was giving the closing remarks during the national monthly clean-up campaign which was presided over in Masvingo by the Zanu PF vice president Kembo Mohadi at the Civic Centre last week on Friday.
Addressing hundreds of Zanu PF supporters gathered at Civic Centre Mawende said they will not sit and rest while the opposition CCC have a field day in Masvingo Urban which has 7 councillors out of 10 and an MP.
“My first request is if we could obtain an ambulance for North West Medical Centre which was officially commissioned today. This is of paramount importance because the clinic will offer maternity services for expecting mothers and other medical emergencies which will require an ambulance.
“I want to assure you Cde Vice Ppresident that I will personally fight to make sure that Masvingo Urban is under the party once again, ” said Mawende to a loud applause.
In his speech Mohadi who had also come for the official opening of North West Medical Centre in Runyararo West as well as commemorating Environmental Management Agency (EMA) tree planting day pointed out that all the projects which have been commissioned are devolution funds facilitated which shows that the opposition is not capable of running a city let alone the whole country.
“We have chanted the 5million votes slogan for some time and the time to prove our capability is near …let’s all go to the ballot box with the mindset that, this is our land and should not be sold out to the foreign controlled opposition.
“Go into the ballot box with the knowledge that you have the power to protect this country and no one should take away what belongs to you. All the roads, clinics, schools and boreholes being constructed are being done through devolution funds funded a brain child of the government under the ruling party Zanu-PF. If they can’t run small cities what about a country?” asked Mohadi.
The event was also attended by the Minister of State for Masvingo Province and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Rabson Mavhenyengwa and Minister of State in the President’s Office and Cabinet responsible for special agriculture projects Davis Marapira.
