MASVINGO -Innocent Tiringindi, a 36-year-old herbalist has appeared before Masvingo Regional Magistrate, Bishard Chineka in the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court charged with culpable homicide.

Regional prosecutor, Liberty Hove told the court that Tiringindi, allegedly caused the death of Cathrine Dube by prescribing babado seed herb to cure her acids.

According to the state’s case, Tiringindi delivered the herb to Dube’s residence on November 12, 2023, with instructions to take it the following morning.

Dube consumed the herb as directed but subsequently experienced severe symptoms, including vomiting, sweating, and difficulty in breathing. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem revealed that Dube’s death was due to chemical toxicity. The state argued that Tiringindi had acted negligently, failing to realize that his conduct could result in death or failing to guard against that possibility.

Magistrate Chineka adjourned the case to July 12 for further trial, with Tiringindi on bail.
