MASVINGO – Masvingo City Council is owed ZW$12 327 252 924 showing an increase of 335.7% from ZW$2 829 425 990.25 in January this year.
This was captured in the 2023 half year budget performance review in possession of The Midweek Watch.
The highest percentage of debtors are from the high density residents owe 29%, the Government 19%, followed by the commercial sector with 17%, the low density residents have 14% share, the medium density also has11%, followed by the industry with 8% and the institutions have 2% for the municipality.
The statement said that Council have enhanced revenue collection by engaging major debtors such as the Government institutions and discontinuation of services has been intensified and engagement with individual debtors are ongoing.
The council also commented on the positive responses they are getting from the government following the engagement endeavours although most departments are still lagging with their accounts.
In the same statement Council highlighted that it owes ZW$3,821, 855,951.70 as of 30 June to various service providers, suppliers and agencies which was triggered by high level of debtors and increasing cost of service delivery.
