O a sad note, Gift Ranganayi the 23 August 2023 Mandere Polling agent is no more. He committed suicide last night.
Gift Ranganayi was part of the united, determined and committed Masvingo Central Pro Chamisa 23 August Electoral Board.
The party’s local leadership and family do not suspect any foul play at this moment although a postmortem report is still to confirm the cause of death.
Ranganayi committed suicide.The reasons he decided to take his life are still not known.He was a true change champion.
Few weeks after 23 August elections Ward 18 Chief Election Agent Takawira Mbohwo committed suicide in an incident which left surrounding areas of Mashate shellshocked.
Ranganayi is the second to take his life in a more or less similar circumstances. Writing in Masvingo Central Whatsapp group Moses Mavhaire the 23 August CCC candidate said “It’s very sad the way we are losing brilliant, dedicated and young freedom fighters. I would like to urgently appeal to all change Champions that if you have serious problems share with others to get better advice.”
Cases of suicide are in the increase. Immediately after CCC mourned and buried Takawira Mbohwo a Zanu PF youth from Muchakata also committed suicide. These suicides have all happened within a distance of less than 5 km radius.
A church leader, Pastor Benjamin Jegede said “Nyika ngainamate mweya wemhepo yakashata iyi iri kuvhuvhuta.Asi chikuru vechidiki nokuda kwekushaya mabasa vakaona mudzimba maoma apa vakadzi nevana vachida kurarama vamwe vanokurirwa. Ndinonamata kuti Mwari abvise matambudziko Ari munyika.Kana hurumende isingagone kupa vechidiki mabasa tongosana nezvakaoma. Vechikuru voziva kufamba,kudya nekurarama nenhamo.”
Gift Ranganayi’s burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
