Masvingo Athletics Board has a new leadership

Masvingo – Ministry of Sports, Arts, Recreation and Sports has commended Masvingo Athletics members for conducting successful elections in line with Olympic cycle.

The elections were held at Zimbabwe Teachers Association of Zimbabwe offices in Masvingo last Saturday.

Chineka was elected unopposed to lead the new MAB Board taking over from Walter Zimusi who was elevated to first vice president at National Association of Athletics Zimbabwe.

Veteran journalist and deputy head of Shongamiti High School Batsiranayi Ngugama was voted Vice Chair beating his rival from St Antony’s High Munjenge 14-1.

His election is crucial in the development of athletics, since sports and media are like Siamese twins.

“It is high time media personnel do like what lawyers are doing in politics’ echoed colleagues at the celebration party.

Itai Dube from Bikita Minerals was elected unopposed as the secretary general. Muchingamidzwa from St Antony’s High is the new organising secretary after defeating Prosper Mundingi.

Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture official Gobvu said he was pleased by the enthusiasm in delegates and signs of maturity.

“As the Ministry, we are working flat out to develop sport in a holistic manner. What you have done here in Masvingo resonates with the vision of the country.

“I urge the new board to hit the ground by lining up programmes of action in order to fine tune the athletics season.

“Masvingo must come first in all the competitions that are coming and am pleased to say this loud and clear that The Resident Minister is in support each time you need help. The PED is also supportive so feel free to come on board” said Gobvu.

Speaking on the sidelines of a sent off party hosted by Masvingo members Zimusi thanked all stakeholders for supporting sport in Masvingo.

“I want to reiterate the need to work hand in glove with government policies. It is good for sport to have seasoned journalists taking sport seriously here in Masvingo.

“I hope Masvingo will continue to grow, build from where we left. I am so grateful with the processes in the province and confident that the new leadership will soar to greater heights,” said Zimusi
