Man killed as vehicle veers off road

GWERU-Police in the Midlands Province has confirmed a fatal road accident which occurred on Sunday at the 114km peg along the Gweru Zvishavane Road at around 10:30am.

Preliminary investigations established that Francis Mandeya (59) was driving alone and upon reaching the 114km, he lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road to the left and overturned.

Mandeya was thrown out of the vehicle and sustained head injuries and was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital where he died upon admission.

In a similar incident, a 22year-old Nembudziya man died after sustaining head injuries in a car crush.

 The incident occurred on the 30 September 2023 at around 1100am.

Police said, Stewart Chabanga of Hatcliff, Harare was driving along Nembudziya-Tchoda dusty road towards Tshoda. He was carrying five passengers in his motor vehicle.

 The now deceased Tanaka Mazarura was riding an unregistered Fiver motor bike along a foot path

which crosses the Nembidziya-Tshoda road.

On approaching the intersection at the 1km peg, Mazarura did not give way to Stewart Chabanga and he was hit by Chabanga’s vehicle.

Only Mazarura was injured, sustaining head injuries.

 He was rushed to Gokwe North District Hospital where he died upon admission.

Midlands Provincial Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and urged motorist to exercise caution on the roads
