GOKWE-A 39-year-old Gokwe man was axed to death by his nephews in front of his parents over allegations of practicing witchcraft.

The deceased, Collen Bheka was assaulted with machetes and axes in broad daylight.

The suspects were identified as Talent Majoni, Evidence Wellington Majoni, Takudzwa Majoni and Trymore Mpofu.

The family had a long-standing grudge in which Bheka (now deceased), was being accused of practizing witchcraft, said Midlands Province ZRP spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

He said on the fateful day, Bheka left home going to his grinding mill, about 800 metres away.

After a few minutes, he was approached by Talent, Evidence, Wellington, Takudzwa and Trymore Mpofu who were armed with axes and machetes.

“Sensing danger, Bheka ran away and sought refuge at his father’s homestead and got into the bedroom hut and closed the door”.

However, the suspects followed him, broke open the door and dragged him out of the bedroom.

“They then attacked him with machetes and axes all over his body in the presence of his parents and he died on the spot and the four suspects went away,” added Insp Mahoko.

Insp Mahoko added that the police are now hunting for the suspects and appealed to members of the public to desist from engaging in violence in the event of disputes.
