Man demands full refund for money spent on ex

Date:

Pamela Mudondo has taken legal action against her former partner, accusing him of harassment and assault over his demand that she reimburses him for money spent during their relationship.

Pamela Mudondo.

Pamela told the Harare Civil Court that her ex-boyfriend, Tawanda Kuwanza, had been physically attacking her and pressuring her to repay him for all the expenses he covered while they were together.

“He constantly sends me threatening messages, warning that he will harm me if I do not pay him back,” she said.

She also claimed that Tawanda had been showing up at her workplace, creating scenes, and embarrassing her in front of colleagues.

“I no longer have peace because every time he sees me, he assaults me,” Pamela added.

In court, Tawanda did not deny the allegations. Instead, he justified his actions by stating that he had spent a significant amount of money on Pamela, including funding trips and purchasing expensive gifts.

“I believe she owes me for everything I did for her,” he argued.

Magistrate Meenal Narotam dismissed Tawanda’s reasoning, stressing that no one has the right to demand reimbursement from a former partner for financial contributions made during a relationship.

“The fact that you spent money on her does not entitle you to assault or harass her for repayment,” the magistrate ruled.

The court granted Pamela a protection order, prohibiting Tawanda from contacting or approaching her.
