CHIPINGE RURAL-Tobias Mhlanga from Chitima Farm in Chief Musikavanhu area hung himself on the bar screen door after his bazooka and Itel cellphone were stolen at a watering hole.
Mhlanga who was drinking beer at Mashava Bottle Store at Grass Flats Business Centre on Sunday (19/5/24) threatened to kill himself if other patrons who allegedly stole his bazooka radio and Itel cellphone fail to return his prized possessions.
Manicaland Province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Mhlanga was drinking beer in the evening at Mashava Bottle Store on Sunday when his bazooka and Itel cellphone went missing.
“Mhlanga went on to implicate other patrons for stealing his radio and cellphone. He threatened to kill himself if they failed to return his property and after the bottle store was closed he was left crying uncontrollably at the bottle store.
“The following morning his body was found hanging on the screen door by the bar man, Allan Mucheto (18).
“The matter was reported at Grass Flats Police Post and the bazooka radio and cellphone were found scattered at bottle store premises,” said Chinyoka.
Chinyoka urged members of the public to seek guidance and counselling from religious leaders, elders and the police in the event of disputes to avoid loss of lives due to stress and loneliness.
