Lake October celebrates Masvingo’s rich heritage

Masvingo – The 4th edition of the Lake October-Great Zimbabwe Tourism Festival promises an unforgettable experience, showcasing Masvingo’s diverse tourist attractions, arts, sports, music, culture, and heritage.
Held annually since 2018, this two-day extravaganza aims to promote Masvingo tourism and position the iconic Great Zimbabwe Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a top destination in Zimbabwe.
The festival’s head of public relations, Tavita Natasha Mpala, confirmed the festival to Midweek Watch newspaper.
“The festival has gained recognition and endorsement from the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, solidifying its importance in Zimbabwe’s tourism landscape, this year’s event, scheduled for October 11-12, 2024, promises an exciting lineup of sports, music, and cultural activities,” said Mpala.
Mpala added that the festival begins with the annual Lake October golf day at Masvingo Golf Club, followed by the opening night of the music festival, “Fill Up Masvingo,” featuring Zimbabwe’s top artistes.
On October 12, the festival shifts to the Great Zimbabwe Monuments, Lake Mutirikwi, and surrounding attractions, offering a day of fun and tourism activities, including tours, lion encounters, game drives, and more.
The closing night headlines Winky D, Gemma, Hwindi President, Mbeu, Mr. Candy, DJ Crazy DEE, Miss Candice, and MC Kauleza.
The festival aims to attract over 8,000 tourists, creating opportunities for local businesses and generating sales worth over USD1 million.
Mpala said by promoting arts, sports, and cultural tourism, the festival exposes Zimbabwean talents to a wider national and international audience, positively impacting the provincial economy.
