Kuzipa is new MISA NGC board chair

In a significant development for the media landscape in the country seasoned journalist who is also TellZim editor, Passmore Kuzipa was ushered in as the new Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA Zimbabwe) national governance council board chairperson.
Kuzipa’s election took place during the organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Harare on October 25, 2024.
Kuzipa takes over from Golden Maunganidze who served for six years at the helm of the organisation which witnessed a huge growth in membership during the period.
Kuzipa will be joined by Phyllis Kachere from Harare as vice-chairperson, Nokuthula Mahaka treasurer, Albert Ncube from Gwanda, and Jefrey Muvundisi from Bulawayo as committee members.
In his acceptance speech, Kuzipa expressed gratitude to MISA members for entrusting him with the responsibility to lead the organisation, promising to build upon the outstanding work of the outgoing board members.
With a proven track record as chairperson of the Masvingo advocacy committee for six years, Kuzipa brings valuable experience to his new role. As a seasoned journalist with a passion for media development, he holds a Master’s degree in Media and Society Studies from Midlands State University and is currently pursuing a degree in law at Great Zimbabwe University’s Herbert Chitepo School of Law.
He worked for The Mirror as a news editor as well as the Masvingo Provincial Star before joining TellZim as its founding editor.
Kuzipa’s advocacy for media freedom, access to information, and freedom of expression has been noteworthy. He has consistently pushed for these values in the province, and his election is expected to further amplify these efforts. Under his leadership, MISA Zimbabwe is poised to continue promoting free expression and unhindered access to information in the country.
He will also sit on the Regional governing council board which is chaired by Jeremias Langa of MISA Mozambique Chapter.
Maunganidze will continue to on the board as an ex office member for the next 12 months giving guidance to the new leadership.
