Industrialists challenged to be more innovative

GWERU-Industrialists should accelerate innovation, go agile and tape in new business models that can help harness the country’s economic growth, Dultrut chief executive officer has said.

Upenyu Kudzai Dube who recently scooped national Megafest Platinum Award in the category of industrialist of the year, said innovation in the construction industry remains a key driver for a sustained economic growth.

He told the Midweek Watch that industrialization and modernization are the key hallmark towards Zimbabwe’s attainment of Vision 2030 of upper middle income economy.

An elated Dube who also won the Megafest Diamond award at provincial level, urged business leaders to be more transformative and proffer business solutions that can solve myriad of challenges in industry.

“The industrialist’s part is to come up with other innovations and new things. Look at those problems that the country is facing and provide solutions.

“They are methodical and stick to proper good manufacturing practices. Our vision as industrialists were driven by the fact that we want sustainable utilization of limited resources and by doing so that sustainability of not throwing away waste means we are doing great serving to our country by protecting the environment,” said Dube.

Dube, a cement technologist and affectionately known as ‘UK’ in the construction industry, added that the industrialists must not cut corners but “should involve all the key technical and quality aspects”.

He said Dultrut takes pride in the manufacturing of roofing sheets, Q-tiles and ridges that are tailor-made to suit any architectural design using high-tech rolling forming machines to adjust and cut to any size that fits any constructional requirements.

He said his company is the first to come up with roll forming machines that manufactures sheets in Gweru using programmable automotive logic controllers operated by qualified engineers.

On the Megafest accolades, Dube highlighted that the prestigious awards were a special recognition for his business leadership, innovation, adherence to modern trends, excellent in customer services and women empowerment.

“The award is a testimony of being upright and sticking to proper business ethics as an industrialist. It reflects my leadership, business ethics, integrity and customer handling. I am also contributing to the betterment of solid and robust industrial policy of the nation to change the country’s trajectory,” he said.

Dube studied cement technology in China and 2021 his organization won the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Innovation Award.
