The Shenjere village under Chief Nhema in Zaka was left in shock as Ester Dhokotera (43), was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her husband, Freddy Zimombe, (53) for urinating in a packed bar.
The sad incident happened on May 16.
ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that the incident is believed to have occurred between 2-6 am, following a dispute that escalated into violence.
The couple had been drinking beer at Muchabve Business Center until around 2am when a heated argument erupted as Dhokotera allegedly urinated in the bottle store which was packed with patrons, prompting Zimombe to react in anger.
In a fit of rage, Zimombe reportedly assaulted his wife with a stick, beating her mercilessly as she cried out for help.
Despite the commotion, patrons failed to intervene, and Zimombe dragged Dhokotera outside, where he continued to kick and beat his stone drunk wife.
He eventually left her lying beside the road.
Zimombe returned to the scene in the morning and found her dead.
Authorities were informed who promptly arrested Zimombe.
Inspector Dhewa said parties should not resolve differences when in a state of inebriation.
