Gokwe – A Gokwe man has been arraigned before the Gokwe Magistrates Court on allegations of murdering his 4-month-old stepdaughter.
Last Maphosa (30) was remanded to May 28th as the investigations continue.
Circumstances are that, Maphosa and Princess Muchenje (18), were living together as husband and wife.
On the day of the incident, Muchenje left her infant daughter in Maphosa’s care while she went to rest, as she was not feeling well.
Maphosa later told his wife that he had taken the child to Kambasha Business Centre to buy cigarettes and left her with his sister.
However, when Muchenje pressed him further, Maphosa returned to the business centre and came back home with the child’s body wrapped in a blanket, claiming she had fallen asleep after drinking too much mahewu.
Muchenje later discovered that her baby was dead when she tried to breastfeed her.
She immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to Maphosa’s arrest.
