Masvingo – Hippo Valley Golf Club has successfully defended its title in the Masvingo Provincial Golf League, emerging victorious for the second consecutive year.

The league, played among teams from Masvingo Province will eventually be held at national level featuring provincial winners in the finals.

Patrick Mangwiro, president of the Masvingo Provincial Golf Union (MPGU), confirmed Hippo Valley’s triumph to The Midweek Watch.

“The provincial leagues are an annual affair, with teams competing in a round-robin format,” he said.

However, Mangwiro highlighted financial constraints as a significant challenge facing the league.

“Clubs are currently self-sponsored, but ideally, we require a dedicated sponsor to motivate players and enhance competitiveness,” he explained.

Another pressing concern is the declining membership, which the MPGU is actively addressing.

“To address this, we plan to engage the corporate world for sponsorship, aiming to boost the game’s attractiveness and, ultimately, our finances,” Mangwiro said.

“With support from the business community, we can elevate the provincial league’s stature, drawing more participants and increasing revenue streams.”

Mangwiro added that the MPGU remains confident that increased sponsorship will propel the sport forward, fostering growth in the province.
