GOKWE-Police are hunting for Karikoga Matare (46), who is accused of violently attacking his wife and father-in-law during a domestic dispute.

Matare, of Village Karikoga under Chief Sayi, is alleged to have struck his wife Mailet Chikwiko (27) and her father, Solomon Chikwiko (72), with an axe following some marital disagreement.

The incident occurred around 1am on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that Karikoga forcibly entered the room where his wife was staying at her parents’ home and attacked her with the axe, striking her several times on the head and all over her body.

When Solomon heard his daughter’s cries for help and rushed to her aid, he was also struck in the head by an axe.

Karikoga is reported to have struck Solomon multiple times on the head and hands before further assaulting his wife with a stick.

Both Solomon and his daughter are currently receiving treatment at the Gokwe District Hospital and are in critical condition.

Karikoga remains at large, and the police are urging the public to refrain from resorting to violence when resolving domestic disputes.
