Fisherman drowns in Musaverema dam

Mwenezi- A 49-year-old fisherman lost his life in a heartbreaking drowning incident at Musaverema Dam on September 28.
According to the Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the victim, Alamatia Macheza, is from Village Musvoti under Chief Mawarire.
Macheza and his wife, Ruvarashe Pfimbidzai (35), had gone to the dam on a fishing expedition with their nets.
After casting his nets into the water from a makeshift boat, Macheza stepped out to clean his nets, leaving the boat on the riverbank.
Tragically, the boat was swept away by waves, prompting Macheza to dive in to retrieve it.
Unfortunately, he was unable to swim and drowned in the process.
Pfimbidzai quickly alerted the authorities, and police sub-aqua units were able to recover Macheza’s body from the water.
According to experts, drowning can occur in a matter of seconds, and it is essential for individuals to take proper precautions when engaging in water activities.
Insp Dhewa emphasized the need for caution and responsible behavior, urging people not to get into water bodies if they are unable to swim.
