MILLICENT HUNGWE

MWENEZI- Over 150 poultry farmers drawn from Mwenezi District benefited from a training course which was conducted by Eben Hardware as it marked its 10th anniversary in the vast arid district.

Eben Hardware first opened a branch in Mwenezi in July 2013 and this year celebrated its milestone achievement by hosting a poultry training at Mwenezi Rural District Council Hall, Neshuro Growth Point for its customers, clients and ordinary people on the 5th of April, The Midweek Watch has learnt.

Of the farmers who attended the training session, 75% of them were female.

The training in Mwenezi was the company’s third one this year after it held two other oversubscribed training sessions at Lees Inn Hotel in Masvingo City for poultry farmers.

Director of Eben Hardware, Benonia Machavuda said the farmers were taken through a wide range of topics that will enhance their poultry production skills and capacity.

“The Poultry Farming Business Training course outline was Roadrunners, Broilers and Sasso Production, Farm Management, Feed and Management, Record Keeping, Vaccination and Budgeting and Profitable Production.” she said.

Muchavuda added that the farmers were taught by experts from Fivet and the Ministry of Agriculture under the Department of Veterinary Services.

“The training was open to everyone, men, women, the young and the old as Eben Hardware our mandate is to build communities and create opportunities for sustainable development,” said Muchavuda

Muchavuda is also the Masvingo Province Ambassador of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) and she has managed to raise the organisation’s flag high as it is empowering women and girls in the province while enhancing their livelihoods.

“The training has yielded great results as we have seen big transformation and growth from many of our farmers and clients,” said Muchavuda.

Veteran jazz crooner Blessing Maramba aka WekwaMaramba entertained the participants during the one day workshop.
