-Dr, family conceal case while treating victim

MASVINGO CITY-In a shocking case of rape and abuse of the girl child, a 10 year old Dikwindi Primary School pupil (name withheld for ethical reasons) in Masvingo City was savagely raped by another learner at Vision Academy in Mucheke.
The Midweek Watch is reliably informed that the pupil spent the whole of last week not attending lessons while undergoing treatment from a local Doctor as her vagina was extensively damaged during the rape.
“We are disturbed as a community because this case has been swept under the carpet because it involves close family relatives. The boy who raped the girl is a son to the mother’s brother and the family decided to seek treatment for the girl without reporting the matter to the Police.
“The girl had difficulty in walking the whole of last week and she revealed what happened to her mother who allegedly told her to keep it a secret although she was willing to divulge the matter,” said a neighbour who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisals from the family which is believed to be closely linked to a ruling party bigwig in the R Section of Mucheke.
Masvingo Province Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that the Doctor and the parents will be investigated and may face prosecution for concealing a crime.
Efforts to get a comment from children organisations were not successful this morning as their mobile phones went unanswered.

Last year, The Midweek in conjunction with the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe investigative unit exposed the rape of two grade 7 pupils from Dikwindi Primary which were also concealed by families.
One of the pupils gave birth to a baby girl who later on died and was buried at Mangwandi Cemetery.
This publication is reliably informed that the Deputy Head of Dikwindi Primary School was allegedly informed of the shocking abuse.
